On 5th September 2025 The Location House by Sarah Ellis claimed the coveted ‘Best Use of Colour’ award at the 2025 UFurnish.com home awards. This accolade recognises outstanding creativity in interior design, especially where colour is used to transform a space - whether through bold contrasts, harmonious palettes, or subtle accents that bring about unexpected warmth or vitality.

Winning this award feels particularly meaningful: UFurnish selects finalists after careful review by a panel of industry-leading judges, including designers, architects and creative directors, and the competition this year was fierce, with hundreds of submissions from across the UK. Sarah is deeply proud that her work stood out - not just for aesthetic impact, but for how the colour choices enhance mood, flow, and functionality in the spaces she designed.
A massive thank you to the UFurnish Awards committee, to the judges for their insight and encouragement, and to the category sponsor Dulux.com. This award inspires Sarah to push boundaries even further and she can’t wait to explore new combinations, textures and tones in the projects ahead.

Why Colour Matters in Creative Production
In film, photography, and brand campaigns, colour is never background noise, it’s a character in the story. A blush-toned wall can soften a bridal shoot. Jewel greens can add cinematic drama. Muted pastels? They bring warmth and intimacy to lifestyle campaigns.
At The Location House, every room offers a palette that works hard for creatives:
Soft pastels for romantic shoots and editorial spreads.
Deep jewel tones that make cinematic stills and fashion campaigns come alive.
Light-filled neutrals that give brands a clean, timeless backdrop.
When productions choose The Location House, they’re accessing a curated set of moods ready for the lens.

What This Means for UK Productions and Shoots
Neutral backdrops are versatile, but when paired with the right splash of tone, they elevate productions. Think of a historic sash-windowed room flooded with natural light, offset by a bold accent wall, or period fireplaces framed with rich textures.
For producers and scouts, the key is understanding how colour interacts with light. Jewel tones in natural daylight create one mood, while the same shades under soft evening lamplight tell an entirely different story. It’s also about balance: bold interiors can lift a scene, but they should never overpower the narrative at its core.
Practical flexibility is just as important. A location that allows colour to be dressed in or stripped back offers maximum creative control, giving directors and photographers the freedom to craft scenes that feel intentional and dynamic.
Sarah Ellis’ award reminds us that colour isn’t just decoration, it’s direction.

A Historic West Midlands Filming Location Made for Visual Storytelling
Set in Solihull, West Midlands (just outside Birmingham), The Location House is a 19th-century country house with period detail intact, ornate ceilings, marble fireplaces, sweeping sash windows. But what makes it award-winning is how these features meet colour.
Grand drawing rooms painted in layered hues. Cozy corners where natural light hits just right. Gardens that shift from vibrant green in summer to rich autumnal tones later in the year. For directors, photographers, and brands, it’s a palette that adapts with the seasons and with the story being told.
